Madrid is not only the capital of Spain, but the capital of culture and art, of shopping, of gastronomy, and of nightlife. There is a different Madrid for every type of visitor.
A welcoming, one-of-a-kind city, where art is on display in every corner. Especially in the Art Triangle, composed of the Prado Museum, the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum and the Reina Sofía Museum, as well as simply walking through the streets and admiring such emblematic places such as the Plaza Mayor, the Royal Palace, the Puerta de Alcalá and the Temple of Debod.
Gastronomy is very much at the heart of Madrid. Cuisines from every corner of Spain converge on the capital, allowing a visitor to taste them all without leaving the city. Its magnificent restaurants, from every international cuisine, are what gives this metropolis its cosmopolitan character.
The “tapeo” is a deep-routed tradition in Madrid, and no one should ever depart without having tried “tapas” from one of the many bars or terraces which are popular all year round thanks to the sunny weather that the city enjoys.
Another unmissable activity in the capital is a shopping spree. From the “Golden Mile” in the Salamanca district, where the most luxurious Spanish and international brands congregate, to the avant-garde creations by new designers that can be found in the Chueca and Malasaña neighbourhoods, there are styles to suit everyone.
Also worth mentioning is the “Rastro” of La Latina, where you can spend hours digging through antique stalls for unique treasures.
If you wish to escape from the hustle and bustle of the city, there are so many other great attractions in the surrounding areas, such as the Monastery of San Lorenzo del Escorial, the beautiful town of Chinchón, and the breath-taking cities of Alcalá de Henares and Aranjuez, both declared World Heritage Sites by UNESCO.
In Madrid there is always something new to see, try and discover: a walk through Retiro Park, watch Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu, or a musical on the Gran Vía. There is no room for boredom in this city that never sleeps…
